6242Y/6242B Twin & Earth Cable is the most common cable used in domestic house and office wiring today including power and lighting circuits. The larger sizes such as 6mm, 10mm and 16mm sizes are used widely to power Hobs, Cookers and Showers.

Twin and earth cable comprises of two individually insulated current carrying conductors and an uninsulated circuit protective conductor (CPC) or earth. Not suitable for unprotected use outside as the outer sheath materials are vulnerable to attack by UV although protective paint can provide some UV protection.

Twin and Earth Cable can generally be found clipped to a joist, inside a plastic conduit or cable tied to a metal basket or tray.

The standard 6242Y has a grey outer sheath while the Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) 6242B has a white outer sheath.

Low Smoke Zero Halogen cable or Zero Halogen Low Smoke cable are designed to minimise the release of toxic fumes when subjected to fire or burning. In an emergency situation escape is improved by the reduced smoke and reduced toxic gasses.
