I Need Home Security - Where Do I Start?

You can never underestimate the feeling of safety and security in your own home!

There are never any guaranteesDIY home security where home security is concerned but the more you can do to protect your home the more content you will feel.

A security system is one of the best lines of defense in protecting your home, but professionally-installed security systems can be expensive and require contracts so here is a short guide to DIY home security.....

Security doesn't have to cost the earth. You can start with a high-quality motion sensor from £8 plus sounder;

Motion Sensor - The Honeywell motion sensor, for example, has a passive infrared motion sensor and features a silent relay for use in quiet environments.  This motion sensor has select-able pet immunity which can distinguish between signals caused by humans and signals caused by pets up to 36kgs. It is easily installed, effective and inexpensive.

 

internal  sounderThe Internal Sounder - Again a relatively inexpensive but effective component of any good system the internal alarm siren plays an important audible part of home security. It makes an economical alarm for your property and clearly tells would-be thieves that your house is protected. One such product is the Knight Extension speaker

 

bellExternal Sounder - Functioning Bell with Zexum Cover Alarm Bell Box. This has an audio deterrent featuring a Piezo sounder with high 109 dBA decibel output. It’s fully backlit cover is labeled with telephone details of Zexum Security company and an added feature is that the illuminated cover which strobes when the alarm is activated so that your alarm will be seen in ‘alarm mode’ from a distance. LEDs on the Deltabell PLUS can be disabled so potential intruders are unaware of its power status. 

These are a great way to begin protecting your home but, really, just a starting point. For more complete security and peace of mind, though, you’ll want to invest in a multi-layer security system. 

Aaccess control systemn Access Control System - These perform authorization identification, authentication, access approval to your property. They don’t have to be expensive or overly complicated, a simple one-way access control intercom handset can be bought for less than £30 and allows the owner to talk to their visitor over the intercom phone and be able to grant or deny access from an out of sight location. Take the ESP One Way Handset, for example, which comes with a lock feature which allows you to open the door to your visitor, and an extra Handset can be added if you need it.

cctvCCTV - an easy to fit outside camera which fits your wall with a cable running to a DVR recorder. This can be situated in your attic to make the wiring easier. You can invest in these individual items or you can go all out and get a full DIY home security kit, incorporating everything you need to secure your home without having to resort to bringing in the professionals. These stand-alone products are fine if that's as far as you want to take your home security but if you really wanted the multilayer option then the most economical way to get it is with a full kit.
