What Is Lot 20?

It comes from an EU Commission directive, converted into UK Law under the Energy Related Products Regulations (ERP).

Simply put, as from January 1st, 2018 all local space heaters within the EU using gas, electricity, or liquid fuels have to comply with a minimum energy efficiency standard.

 This legislation is aimed at getting rid of ineffective technologies and reducing energy used by home heating products, to help reach long-term carbon reduction targets.
 

Essentially this means that all heaters will have to include intelligent room temperature controls to reduce energy wastage.
 

How Does It Affect Me?

Lot 20 means that it is essential that consumption and emissions for local space heaters are reduced using “existing, non-proprietary technologies” without adding to the combined costs of buying and operating the products. So, while the initial price of the product might be higher to cover the cost of the new technologies, the running costs over a lifetime will be less.
